    FAQ's
My child has (or will) missed a dance class. Are there make-up classes?
Your child is welcome to participate in a make-up dance classes during the semester providing there is a comparable class on another day. Absences are not deducted from the tuition, but can be made up before the end of the semester. Please check with your child's instructor to find the best time for a make-up class.
My child has never taken ballet. Is it too late to begin now?
Any age is a wonderful time to learn ballet! At this time, the program is geared toward children ages toddlers to early teens. Children will be welcomed into a class at his/her appropriate level, where the fundamentals will be taught with a chance to perform in the recital at the end of each term. If you have any questions about which class is appropriate for your child, contact the office for a consultation.
Is this the right dance school for my child? Recreational dancing or professional training?
Our dance program is designed to suite the needs of children who love to dance as a hobby as well as the professionally oriented student. During the early years of training (ages 2-8) classes are focused on developing proper dance technique, in a motivational, fun and creative classroom atmosphere. We are proud to say that by the age of 9, select students are technically prepared to audition for our performing companies. For the majority of young students ages 8-pre-teens who prefer to continue their journey in dance as a hobby, our program offers a serious yet fun alternative to the strictness and time demands of company classes. Older students who continue at Augusta West Dance Studio have the opportunity to become a member of the Augusta West Performing Companies, which includes increased roles in our semiannual performances as well as other community based-performing opportunities, dance education workshops, and competitions.
My son is interested in learning dance. Do you accept boys in your program?
Yes, we do have boys in our program. The ratio of boys to girls is rarely equal in any dance class, but our instructors do their best to welcome boys into the classes and help them fit right in. Tap/Jazz/Hip-Hop is often recommended for boys because it is a more fast-paced, physical and relatively gender-neutral dance form. However, boys are also welcomed into our ballet program and our instructors will always be attentive to modifying movement for the proper education of the male ballet dancer.
Which class is the right level for my child?
Class placement is typically by age and experience. Up until the age of about 6 years, beginners can join a class with children of the same age, even if other children in the class may have had previous experience. Older beginners are often advised to take one semester at a lower level to catch up with more experienced children their age. If you check on the Class Schedule pages, the appropriate ages and grades for each class are listed. If you have any questions, please contact the office for a consultation.
Are there discounts for multiple classes or multiple children enrolled in your program?
Yes, we offer discounts for children who take more than one class per week as well as a discount off of the total tuition for siblings. Please refer to our Tuition Page for further information.
